WHAT IS THE STOPMotion! Competition?

“STOPMotion!” is an inter-school competition run in conjunction with the S.T.O,P! (Stop the ‘Ouch’, Please!) campaign and conference. The “STOP” in “STOPMotion!” stands for “Stop the Ouch, Please!”, and when coupled with “Motion” (a synonym for a movement), it essentially is a call to all to make a public stand against violence and abuse in relationships. It provides a platform where you can let your creative juices flow and come out with a message to speak out against the violence in relationships, such as elder abuse, child abuse, marital/ date violence.

Your message is to be depicted through posters, drawings, short films or writings. This competition is organised with the aims of:

  • Encouraging youths to step out and make a stand against relationship violence.
  • Providing an opportunity for youths to display their creativity and talent in various aspects, be it visuals, short films or writings.
  • Raising awareness of relationship violence among youths in Singapore

WHY IS THERE A NEED FOR The STOPMotion! Competition, STOP Campaign, & A Woman’s Worth Conference?

In recent years, more people have come out to report being abused by someone whom they loved or trusted. In the last year alone, PAVe has handled over 800 cases of battered wives in Singapore. But many more cases of violence go undisclosed. SUCH VIOLENCE HAS TO STOP!

Hence, Ngee Ann Polytechnic’s School of Interdisciplinary Studies is mounting a “Stop The Ouch, Please!”(S.T.O,P!) campaign and a conference titled, “A Woman’s Worth”, from 4-9 November 2009.

More details of this campaign and conference can be found at stopcampaign.wordpress.com
